Campus Study Team Blog

Welcome to the VCC Campus Study Blog!

This is where we'll share updates, progress, and important information from the Campus Study Team as they work through the process of evaluating our church campus and exploring possibilities for the future.

Think of this as your go-to spot for all things campus planning. As new information becomes available, we'll share it right here so our church family can stay informed and follow along.

First Things First: What's the Campus Study Team?

As our church family continues to grow, we're taking a closer look at the spaces we use every week and how they can better serve our ministries, our congregation, and the community around us.

The VCC Board of Trustees has formed a Campus Study Team to help guide that process. They'll be working alongside Johnson, Laschober & Associates (JLA), an architectural firm with more than 40 years of experience in worship facility design.

Together, they'll be looking at things like:

How we're currently using our buildings and where improvements could be made.

Better signage and easier ways to navigate our campus.

More welcoming entrances and improved pedestrian flow.

A cohesive campus plan that considers both our existing facilities and future growth.

Creative ways our campus can better reflect who we are as a church and what we believe.

At the heart of it all is a desire to be good stewards of what God has given us while making room for the ministry He's calling us to.

A Little Background

This process began with the VCC Board of Trustees, who, following approval from the Executive Council and using findings from our church's Vision Report, began looking into architectural firms that could help us evaluate our campus.

After researching and interviewing nine firms, the Trustees selected JLA to help us take a closer look at our facilities and develop recommendations for the future.

It's important to understand that we're in the study and planning phase. No specific building projects or renovations are being announced at this point. Right now, the focus is on gathering information, exploring ideas, and understanding how our campus can best support the life and mission of VCC.

Meet the Team

Our Campus Study Team includes seven VCC members:

Diane Meeks, Jessica Downie, Philip McRae, Ivy Reid, Tom Peterson IV, Robert Hilton, and Heather Stanley.

Ad Hoc Members: Robert Wilkerson, Julee Torrance, and Rev. Jose Caraballo.

We're grateful for each of these individuals and their willingness to invest their time in helping our church plan thoughtfully for the future.

What's on the Calendar?

The team and JLA have several important steps ahead over the coming weeks.

November 13 — Facility Assessment

Taking a closer look at how our spaces are currently used, identifying ministry needs, and considering opportunities to improve functionality.

November 25 — Conceptual Planning

Putting some early ideas on paper, including preliminary renovation concepts, space layouts, and improvements to signage and wayfinding.

December 4 — Presentation

Bringing the findings and recommendations together for a presentation to church leadership and stakeholders.

These dates represent the current project schedule, and we'll share more as the work progresses.

Follow Along!

That's where this blog comes in. Rather than leaving everyone wondering what's happening behind the scenes, we want to keep our church family informed throughout the process.

As the Campus Study Team moves through each phase, we'll use this space to share updates, explain what's being considered, and communicate important next steps. We'll also continue sharing key information through our bulletin, The Insider, and church announcements.

In the meantime, we ask that you join us in praying for wisdom, clarity, and discernment for everyone involved in this process.

We're looking forward to seeing how God continues to lead VCC, and we're glad you're following along.

Have a question? Feel free to reach out to any member of the Campus Study Team. We'd love to hear from you!
